Background

Two fundamental scientific concepts underly the work of the JAGUAR Project: biological diversity (or 'biodiversity' for short) and ecosystem services.

They have become key terms in discussions about sustainable land use, but they are not always used with the same meaning. In applied research projects like JAGUAR it is therefore important to provide definitions for them.
