MODEL-WHO

Join this exclusive opportunity offered by World Federation of UN Associations (WFUNA) in partnership with Justus Liebig University Giessen (Germany) and America University of Beirut (Lebanon), with support of the World Health Organization:

WFUNA International Model UN, online, November 5 – 14, 2021

If you are a student of medicine, nursing, public or global health, you now have the chance to network with your peers at two exclusive World Health Assembly (WHA) simulations and engage in discussions on one of the following two global health issues:

World Health Assembly 1: Promoting the Health of Refugees and Migrants and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (https://wfuna.org/wimun/online/wha1)

World Health Assembly 2: Global Agenda on Health, Environment and Climate Change (https://wfuna.org/wimun/online/wha2)

The online simulations are scheduled for the two weekends November 5-7 and November 13-14. Side events during the week Nov. 8 – 12 offer additional information for example on the work of UN organizations and possibilities for students to enter the UN system.

The general idea of the Model-WHA is that student delegates represent specific UN member states to elaborate a resolution of the World Health Assembly (WHA) on the topic of the simulation. The work of the assembly will be supported by WHO-experts on the specific topic, and the methodology follows strictly the rules of real UN assemblies. The two simulations will be chaired by two students, Ghiwa Nasser Eddine (Beirut) and Nabor Keweloh (Gießen), supported by experienced UN experts.

The two parallel simulations start with a Welcome and Introduction by WFUNA and WHO on Friday, November 5 (afternoon, Geneva time zone), followed by a training for all student delegates on Saturday, Nov 6 (morning hours). The actual assembly will take place with plenary sessions and breakout groups on Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 6/7 and 13/14). Student delegates are requested to fully participate on both weekends, until the resolution is passed. After finishing the simulation, all student delegates will receive a certificate issued by WFUNA.
