Semester Abroad

The stay abroad in the third semester is an important part of the WIMORE master's program. Accordingly, careful planning is required in order to make the most of the available opportunities. Depending on the destination, this planning begins before or at the start of the master's program. But don't worry! We not only support you in your preparations, but also offer regular web meetings during your stay abroad so that you don't lose contact with your fellow students and lecturers.

Overall, it is best to discuss your plans to study abroad with professors and lecturers as soon as possible. Depending on your interests, they can advise you on suitable destinations, especially for studying abroad. As former students, doctoral candidates are also helpful contacts.

Internship Abroad

An internship abroad as part of a master's program offers another opportunity for further academic education in addition to the traditional semester abroad. It allows the required stay abroad to be integrated into the course of study in a very flexible manner and is not tied to specific institutions or countries.
The internship abroad must last at least 12 weeks and should be discussed with the professor in advance. In addition to possible remuneration for the internship, further financial resources may be available to students. It is therefore recommended that you find out about financing options in good time on the website of the International Office. Further information on internships abroad can be found here. 

ERASMUS+ program

There is also the option of taking a semester abroad at a European partner university through the ERASMUS+ program. The application deadline for the winter semester is December 20 of the previous year. If there are more applications than places available, decisions will be made based on suitability. Global Exchange Opportunities

Those who are interested in studying outside of Europe have the opportunity to obtain a place at university through one of JLU's many international exchange programs. These include the state partnership between Hesse and Massachusetts and Wisconsin in the USA or Queensland in Australia, as well as partner universities in Turkey, Poland, and Russia. More information on international agreements can be found here. In addition, students of all disciplines have the opportunity to obtain one of the coveted places in the USA through the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), which is administered by the Department of English. More information can be found here. In general, the application deadlines are usually earlier (e.g., end of October), and proof of language proficiency, such as TOEFL or ILETS, is required. It is therefore advisable to find out about the application process before the start of the first master's semester.

Freemover

There is also the option of organizing your own stay as a so-called freemover. This is particularly useful if you want to attend a specific university that does not have a partnership agreement with JLU. Further information is available here.
