PANDA MVD

The PANDA Micro-Vertex-Detector (MVD) is located in the so-called target spectrometer and is the innermost sub-detector of the experiment, directly at the primary interaction point.

The MVD is used for the track reconstruction of charged particles and is therefore essential for the precise determination of secondary decay vertices of short-lived particles such as hyperons or mesons with charm or stringy content.

The original design of the MVD consists of four cylindrical barrels (1-4, blue) and six discs in the forward direction (1-6, red). In addition, two further discs are planned at a greater distance downstream.

The individual layers of the MVD are equipped with silicon strip sensors (barrels) and pixel sensors (discs).

Further information on the MVD can be found in the Technical Design Report.
