The DFG-funded research group ‘AnMziganism and Ambivalence in Europe (1850-1950)‘ analyses the intertwined history of representaMons and self- arMculaMons that contributed to the inclusion and emancipaMon as well as the exclusion and eliminaMon of SinM*zze and Rom*nja in Europe between 1850 and 1950. This goal is achieved by deconstrucMng anMziganist stereotypes in art, state and science as well as by reconstrucMng the agency of SinM*zze and Rom*nja. Together, transfers, synchronies and asynchronies between European spaces from Spain to Germany and Romania will be analysed. The conference is dedicated to forms of knowledge circulaMon and spectacularisaMon of representaMons within the tension between AnMziganism and Agency

Die von der DFG geförderte Forschungsgruppe „AnOziganismus und Ambivalenz in Europa (1850- 1950)“ analysiert die Verflechtungsgeschichte der FremdrepräsentaOonen und SelbstarOkulaOonen, die in Europa zwischen 1850 und 1950 einerseits zur Inklusion und EmanzipaOon sowie andererseits zur Exklusion und EliminaOon von SinO*zze und Rom*nja beigetragen haben. Dieses Ziel wird durch die DekonstrukOon anOziganisOscher Stereotype in Kunst, Staat und Wissenscham sowie durch die RekonstrukOon der Agency von SinO*zze und Rom*nja erreicht. Gemeinsam werden Transfers, Synchronien und Asynchronien zwischen europäischen Räumen von Spanien über Deutschland bis Rumänien untersucht. Die Tagung analysiert Formen der WissenszirkulaOon und der Spektakularisierung von Fremd- und Eigenbeschreibungen im Spannungsfeld von AnOziganismus und Agency.
