With a history of more than 400 years, the University of Giessen is one of the oldest in Europe. Founded in 1607, the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen is an internationally recognized institution in research and teaching with about 28,000 students and more than 5,600 members of staff. It is the second largest university in the State of Hesse. Students can choose from a wide range of subjects and courses offered by eleven faculties. Our vision is to be widely recognized as the first choice of students who want to experience the highest quality of education and of young academics looking for an excellent research environment. The University of Giessen places great emphasis on being truly international. This is reflected not only through our dynamic and modern study and research environment with an increasing number of international students and faculties but also in our strong partnerships with many different universities worldwide. Our research fellows and academic staff include members from various countries in Europe, as well as overseas. Every year, numerous foreign students visit Giessen to attend our courses and therefore being part of the international environment on our campus. In addition to traditional undergraduate and postgraduate courses, we offer programs designed specifically for international legal professionals and law students. Our students, national as well as international, create a truly cosmopolitan atmosphere for living, as well as studying.
