"Giant numbers and giant animals"
Abstract:
In the first part of this talk, we will introduce numbers which are finite but nevertheless so big that they are beyond human comprehension.
We will give some explicit examples, like Graham's number.
In the second part, we will use a mixture of mathematics, physics and biology to try to answer two questions:
- (1) Why do all adult human beings have approximately the same size ?
- (2) What about the possible existence of giant animals like King Kong
