Abstract: Following a seminal paper by Uhlenbeck, we analyze the Gauss equation that governs the minimal immersion of a closed surface in a 3-hyperbolic manifold. We will in particular provide the asymptotic
behavior of mountain pass solutions when the second fundamental form is small.
