Culture of Care
11 March 2025 - Mini Symposium Culture of Care
What is a Culture of Care?
The concept of a 'culture of care' is generally used by the laboratory animal community to denote a commitment to the enhancement of animal welfare, scientific standards, staff welfare, and stakeholder transparency. This approach entails a transformation of prevailing routines and procedures towards dialogical processes of negotiation and reconceptualisation among all relevant groups. It is understood that all groups involved (management, science, regulation, and care) act as multipliers in the implementation of the 3Rs and the aforementioned Culture of Care, understood as appreciation, care, and the wellbeing of all actors.
A mini symposium on the Culture of Care is being planned by ICAR3R on 11 March 2025, with the aim of facilitating discussion on this approach. The symposium is based on the concept of the Culture of Care as a tool for animal-free research, and will include communication, reflection on values, beliefs and attitudes, and consideration of personal perceptions in relation to this field of research. The symposium will consist of talks and debates, as well as individual discussions that will provide a deeper understanding of different perspectives on the topic.
For this event, 3 ATF-hours and 3 further training hours in accordance with §3 Abs. 2 TierSchVersV for all people involved in animal experiments and the care of laboratory animals will be awarded.
