Research Associate / Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) “Olfactory Control of Behavior in Amphibians”

Founded in 1607, Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) is a research university rich in tradition. Inspired by curiosity about the unknown, we enable around 25,000 students and 5,800 employees to advance science for society. Join us in breaking new ground and writing success stories - your own and those of our university.

We are looking for your support from 01.11.2026, in a full time position as

Research Associate / Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d)
“Olfactory Control of Behavior in Amphibians”

The position is part of the externally funded project “The sense of smell as a modulator of feeding behavior during developmental transitions in poison frogs” and is to be filled on a fixed-term basis in accordance with § 2 WissZeitVG and § 72 HessHG with the opportunity for own academic qualification at the Chair of of Animal Physiology and Molecular Biomedicine within the Institute of Animal Physiology, Faculty of Biology and Chemistry. The Research Group
Our research activities primarily focus on developmental, cellular, and functional aspects of the olfactory system in amphibians and other aquatic vertebrates. Using advanced imaging, neurophysiological, and molecular biological methods, we investigate the olfactory system. Furthermore, we use the olfactory network as a model to study the dynamics of neuronal development, synaptogenesis, neuronal degeneration, and regeneration. Our research is complemented by behavioral studies that explore the role of olfactory cues under natural conditions. We place great value on a collegial working environment, early scientific responsibility, and the targeted support of the academic development of our team members.

Your tasks at a glance
