Research VWL XII
The Chair of Market Design deals with the analysis and optimization of markets. The aim is to improve the performance of existing markets by designing market rules and discovering new market mechanisms that best achieve the goals of the market operator. In doing so, the characteristics of a market and its environment as well as the behavior of bidders under the respective market rules must be taken into account. The professorship focuses on auction markets. Examples include electricity markets, auctions for renewable energies,or telecommunications licenses, and procurement auctions. To this end, the professorship uses methods from game theory, auction theory, and mechanism design, as well as methods from experimental economic research.
