Information for first-year students - First steps in the Faculty of Business Studies and Economics

Welcome to the Faculty of Business Studies and Economics at JLU Gießen!

 
Here you will find some useful information about starting your studies at our Faculty.

Orientation events at the start of your studies

The Central Student Advisory Service at Justus Liebig University Gießen organizes an orientation week for all first-year Bachelor's students and orientation days for Master's students. In addition to this, there is an orientation week for international students. Here you can meet your fellow students, get to know the campus and ask questions about your studies.

Pre-courses and pre-university courses

You can attend the following pre-university courses (PUC) and pre-courses before the start of your studies and in some cases you can already earn CP:

Create your timetable

You can find the courses (lectures, tutorials and tutorials) scheduled for your degree program for the first semester in the electronic course catalog (eVV) (go to the link LEHRVERANSTALTUNGEN) or in Stud.IP. For the Bachelor's degree program in Economics and Business Studies in the winter term, these are:

Management I, Accounting, Microeconomics I (Mikroökonomie I), Macroeconomics I (Makroökonomie I) and Mathematics for Business and Economics (Mathematik für Wirtschaftswissenschaftler);

in the summer term, these are:

Management II, Finance, Microeconomics II (Mikroent II, Finance, Microeconomics II (Mikroökonomie II), Macroeconomics II (Makroökonomie II) and Formal Foundations of Statistics (Formale Grundlagen der Statistik).

Attending pre-courses can be a useful addition to your timetable!

For our Master's degree programs, you can find information on the planned courses on the

Register in Stud.IP for the courses you wish to attend or find out about the content and organization of the relevant courses on the websites of the responsible chairs.

Stud.IP, eVV, ILIAS, FlexNow and e-mail - JLU's e-campus

With your student ID (chip card) and your student account ("s-number") you can access the electronic systems of JLU Giessen. These include

  • eVV - JLU's electronic course catalog: dates, locations and information on courses.
  • Stud.IP: Here you can register for courses and obtain further information.
  • ILIAS: JLU's central learning platform with e.g. pre-courses, teaching videos, exercises, online tests, group work and forums
  • FlexNow: JLU Giessen's examination administration system.

IMPORTANT! Set up your JLU e-mail address and check your inbox regularly!
