Please note: The Computer Lab is currently unavailable (except for workshops). It is scheduled to relocate sometime in 2026. The new location of the Computer Lab will be Otto-Behaghel-Str. 10, Building B, 2nd floor, room 201a/245 (former entry of the German division of the university's library). We will inform you once the move has been completed.
The computer lab of the English department library offers 5 work stations at which students can work with about 140 programs.
The wide range of software in the Computer Lab enables our students
- to improve their language skills through the use of CALL programs (Computer Assisted Language Learning): this includes language learning software of any kind, from primary school to business study programs
- to further their knowledge about linguistics: we make available a number of linguistic corpora and text collections (e.g. newspaper collections) as well as concordance programs for linguistic analysis. In addition, students can make use of a variety of interactive introductory courses such as "Introduction to Linguistics", "Phonetics and Phonology", "Old English Multimedia", etc. to further explore linguistic topics.
- to access full-text editions of a wide range of literary works in English (important plays, novels, tales, stories, essays, poems and autobiographies) from the late 14th century to the second decade of the 20th century
- to explore relevant topics in the field of area/cultural studies through interactive software (e.g. "The Oxford Guide to British and American Culture", "500 Nations", etc.).
- to make use of a variety of specialised electronic dictionaries (monolingual/bilingual, corpus-based)
