Discover the Giessen Centre for Eastern Europe (GiZo)

The Giessen Centre for Eastern Europe (GiZo) is a regional research and teaching centre where Slavic studies is one of the core disciplines. It was founded on 14 July 2006 at Justus Liebig University and brings together Eastern European research in the cultural and social sciences. Thanks to its close ties to the Herder Institute and excellence programmes, you can expect to conduct research in an excellent environment. The Master's programme opens up a wide range of career prospects – from academia and media to culture and politics – and, starting in the 2024/25 winter semester, will also offer the option of a Ukraine-focused course of study. GiZo offers students a unique opportunity to engage in an in-depth and interdisciplinary study of civilisations, cultures and dynamics in Eastern Europe.

What makes studying at GiZo special?
