Economic Geography and Mobility (Wirtschaftsgeographie und Mobilität, WIMO)
The WIMO focus is primarily on innovation systems and spatial dynamics, as well as interactions between spaces with regard to the exchange of production factors (e.g., knowledge, human capital) and tangible and intangible goods and services. In addition, there is an industry focus on the logistics and mobility sector, which is of outstanding importance for the Rhine-Main region and also for Germany as a location for innovation. In addition to internal industry transformation processes, perspectives that promote a sustainable mobility transition in technical, organizational, and socioeconomic terms play a particularly important role here.
Economic Geography and Spatial Development Policy (Wirtschaft und Raumentwicklungspolitik, WIRE)
The WIRE focus takes a broader view of regional development dynamics based on the production factor of knowledge and discusses, above all, the possibilities and limitations of steering regional development processes with the help of political support tools. In addition to classic topics in economic geography (e.g., agglomeration effects, spillover, location policy), aspects of regional governance from a multi-stakeholder perspective are also applied. These perspectives are considered in an integrated manner in order to give students a better understanding of the complexity of regional development.
Mobility and Spatial Development Policy (Mobilität und Raumentwicklungspolitik, MORE)
The MORE focus area examines specific policies and control options in the context of the mobility transition. Holistic transport concepts, for example, play a major role here, negotiated between various stakeholders such as operators, local authorities, and citizens' initiatives. These mobility policy issues are also increasingly becoming the focus of attention in traditional urban development and spatial planning issues.
