Teaching

 

The field of physical geography offers classes for bachelor and master students, and for those students who are trained as teachers. Students, who are interested in conducting their own research project, may continue with PhD studies after obtaining their MSc degree.

 

BSc Geography

BSc

Our classes in physical geography focus on geomorphology and Quaternary research. Most of our classes include field work, field trips and/or laboratory excercises.

The following classes are offered in our BSc curriculum:

  • Lecture: Introduction into Physical Geography – Geomorphology
  • Basic project I: Basic principles of Geology and Geomorphology in Hesse and Southern Germany
  • Basic Project II: Hompage „Physical Geography in Hesse“
  • Advanced project: Sedimentary archives
  • International project: Geomorphology und Quaternary research
  • Additional project: Environment, Climate and Man in the Quaternary
  • Field trips
  • Consolidation Module
  • BSc Thesis Seminar

The following BSc curriculum is recommended if you plan a focus on geomorphology and physical geography (start in the winter semester):

A BSc thesis in the field of physical geography – geomorphology can only be offered to those students, who focused on courses and topics in physical geography – geomorphology during their BSc studies. M.Sc. Mensch – Klima – PaläoUmwelt (Man – Climate – PaleoEnvironments)

MSc

The MSc programme sets a strong focus on palaeoenvironmental studies, climate change, Quaternary research and human-environmental interactions. Special attention is paid to dating methods used in Quaternary research.

The following classes are offered in our MSc curriculum:

  • Seminar: Introduction Module Physical and Human Geography

  • Seminar: Orientation Module Man – Climate – PaleoEnvironments 

  • Exercise course: Advanced Geostatistics

  • Project: Quaternary Environments and Geoarchaeology

  • Project: Practice Project Lab, Field and Models

  • MSc Thesis Seminar

In case of an excellent MSc degree and strong interest and ability in working independently on a specific field of scientific research, we encourage MSc students to engage in a PhD project.
