1973 - 1975

Trainee teacher at a German high school (Wirsberg-Gymnasium) in Würzburg.
1980 Dissertation on Agricultural Landscapes in Roman Germany (Die Agrarlandschaft im römischen Deutschland der Kaiserzeit) at the University of Würzburg.
1993 Habilitation on the Development of Rural Settlements in the Southern Bavarian Forest (Die Entwicklung der ländlichen Siedlungen im südlichen Bayerischen Wald) at the University of Passau.

Professional Experience
1975-1981 Teacher at Ebern Comprehensive School / Lower Franconia.
1981-1983 Teacher at a German high school in Bamberg.
1983-1993

Lecturer for Geography Education at the University of Passau (Since 1989: director of studies).
1993 Offer of a C3-professorship of Geography Education at the University of Augsburg.
1993 Offer of a C4-professorship of Geography Education at the University of Giessen.
1994 Appointment to a Chair at the University of Giessen.

Chairman of the VDSG (Verband Deutscher Schulgeographen - Association of Geography teachers in Hesse).
