Teaching & Research Focus

As a biologist, I have been interested in a variety of animal groups, their ecology, and the conservation of biodiversity in their habitats. I combined these interests working on the project “Fallow strips in agricultural grasslands.” As part of the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (EIP-Agri) funded by the Hessian Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, the focus of my work is on testing sustainable conservation measures for the protection of insect diversity in agricultural grasslands. As part of this work, I study how temporary fallow strips affect the protection of biodiversity of flower-visiting and herbivorous insects, in particular the conservation of population sizes, their community structures, and the resilience of these interacting communities to mowing events.
