Awards

2025

  • The German Veterinary Medical Society awarded the Otfried-Siegmann Prize to Dr. Svenja Gramberg (working group PD Dr. Häberlein) as well as to PD Dr. Simone Häberlein herself. This prize is given to highly qualified young scientists and for the publication with the title "Spatial transcriptomics of a parasitic flatworm provides a molecular map of drug targets and drug resistance genes", which was published under the supervision of PD Dr. Simone Häberlein in Nature Communications. The award ceremony took place during the  DVG-Vet-Congress in Berlin on Nov 06, 2025.  
  • During the congress of the German Society of Parasitologie (DGP) in Würzburg, Germany, this year togther with the British Society of Parasitology and the Swiss Society of Parasitology as a big joint meeting (11.-14.03.2025), Dr. Oliver Puckelwaldt, postdoc in the group of PD Dr. Simone Häberlein, has received the renowned Gerhard Piekarski Award for the best doctoral thesis of the last two years.   

       

 

  • During the congress of the German Society of Parasitologie (DGP) in Würzburg, Germany, this year togther with the British Society of Parasitology and the Swiss Society of Parasitology as a big joint meeting (11.-14.03.2025), Svenja Gramberg, doctoral student in the group of PD Dr. Simone Häberlein has received a poster award for the following presentation: „HNF4 as a key regulator of gut biology in the liver fluke F. hepatica

 

  • During the 29th Brasilian Congress for Parasitology (April 22.-25., 2025) in Salvador de Bahia, Dr. Saranya Geetha, postdoc in the group of Prof. Christoph Grevelding at the institute for Parasitology, received the „Best Presentation Award (1st place)“ for her presentation on: “Targeting GPCRs in Schistosoma mansoni: enhancing RNAi knockdown for effective control of schistosomiasis”

       

 

  • During the DVG-congress, specialist group Parasitology & Parasitic Diseases (June 30. - August 02.,2025) at the JLU Giessen, Sophie Welsch, doctoral student of Prof. Christoph Grevelding at the Institute for Parasitology, received an award for the best talk with the following topic: „The RNA helicase eIF4A is a crucial factor for reproduction and development of Schistosoma mansoni

       

 

  • During the international conference „200 Years Theodor Bilharz: Schistosomiasis Research in Germany and Beyond“ (October 08.-10., 2025) at the  University Tübingen, Germany, Sophie Welsch, doctoral student of Prof. Christoph Grevelding at the Institute for Parasitology, received a poster prize for her work on: “RNA Helicase eIF4A: A Vital Driver of Reproduction and Development in Schistosoma mansoni

       

 

  • During the conference "Engineering Life 2025: Origin and Function of Mechanical Forces in Biology" (September 01.-03., 2025) at the University Dresden,  Rashmi Nakate, doctoral student of the Priority Program PoP (Physics of Parasitism) and co-supervised by DP Dr. Simone Häberlein and Prof. Christoph Grevelding at the Institute for Parasitology, recevied a poster prize for her work on: „Adhesion Forces and Cellular Mechanotransduction in Parasitic Flatworms“.

 

2024

  • At the "Akademischer Festakt" of the Justus Liebig University 2024, PD Dr. Simone Häberlein received the award of the university for her excellent scientific achievements on the topic „New avenues in drug target discovery against parasitic flatworms: from single-cell and spatial transcriptomics to translational research“ (among others published in Nature Communications).   • At the 17th GGL conferenz at the Justus Liebig University, Sophie Welsch received the first poster award dfor her contribution: „Analysis of a translation initiation factor of Schistosoma mansoni as potential drug target“. https://www.uni-giessen.de/de/fbz/zentren/ggl/events/AC/2024/2024

       

  • At the 17th GGL conference at the Justus Liebig University, Frederick Stettler (Faculty of Human Medicine, working group Roeb/Roderfeld; cooperation with working group Grevelding) the second poster award for his contribution: “Induction of the proto-oncogene c-Jun and downstream metabolic functions in cell culture models of Schistosoma mansoni/Hepatitis-B-Virus co-infection".

2023

  • During the 30. Biannual Meeting of the German Society for Parsitologie (DGP) at the Justus Liebig University Giessen, Rashmi Nakate received a poster price for her work on: "Biomechanics of the Plathyhelminth Adhesion, Locomotion, and Reproduction". Our sincere congratulations!

       

  • The Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences awards Svenja Gramberg the best talk award during the 16th GGL Conferenz
  • At the international Hydra conference "Parasitic Helminths: New Perspectives in Biology": Max Möscheid received the poster award in poster session 2 for his work on: "Chromosomal integration of a reporter gene by RNA-guided Cas-enzymes into a predicted genomic safe-harbor site of Schistosoma mansoni". Our sincere congratulations!

      

2020          

  • Dr. Simone Häberlein received the Karl Asmund Rudolphi-Medal of the German Society for Parasitology (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Parasitologie) for her "Outstanding contributions in the field of Parasitology", especially her research success with respect to Schistosoma mansoni and Fasciola hepatica.

 

2019

  • Dr. Svenja Beckmann received the Gerhard Piekarski-Award of the German Society for Parasitology (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Parasitologie: http://www.dgparasitologie.de/) for her discovery of schistosome enzymes, which are associated with developmental functions and which may represent targets for novel approaches to fight schistosomiasis.
