Two of the central factors that occupy (future) teachers in higher education are communication and student needs. In this course, we will explore different ways to effectively shape interpersonal relationships as well as the expectations that students have towards their teachers in the cultural studies classroom. Among the questions we want to answer in this workshop are: How can active listening be practiced? Why are empathy and support important attributes of teachers? How do I manage students’ expectations regarding access, resources and content, among others? And, finally, what does the decoding of the discipline have to do with this? If these questions seem familiar and / or interesting to you, then this course is the right way to go! The course instructor, Prof. Dr. Ivo Steininger (JLU) and the Teaching Centre are very much looking forward to discussing these topics in a safe and open environment with a focus on your needs and a common exchange. Note: This course has emerged as a follow-up of the workshop "Teacher-Student Interactions," but it can also be joined independently.

Many offerings of the Teaching Centre can be credited as working units in the basic certificate “Kompetenz für professionelle Hochschullehre” (Competencies for Professional University Teaching) of the Hochschuldidaktisches Netzwerk Mittelhessen (HDM).
