The PhDnet Induction Week is a long-standing four-day conference that marks the beginning of each new PhDnet cycle and serves as the network’s central kick-off event. In January 2026, the PhDnet will welcome its 7th cohort while celebrating its 18th anniversary, bringing together doctoral researchers and senior scholars from Giessen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Warwick, Bergamo, Graz, and Católica Lisbon.

 

From 13–16 January, the new cohort will meet for the first time, getting to know one another as well as their supervisors for cotutelle partnerships, postdoctoral researchers, and professors across the network. Beyond fostering academic exchange and community-building, the Induction Week places a strong emphasis on practical training. A series of hands-on workshops equips doctoral students from the outset with key academic skills, including open access publishing, overcoming the fear of the first dissertation draft, and effective body language and voice use at conferences.
