Panel on Planetary Thinking

After our welcome breakfast, the fellows shared details of their ongoing projects. Olivaz and Syntropia discussed their joint project to create an AI Avatar for the Lahn River in Giessen. The project will combine advanced technologies such as sensors and AI with cultural storytelling, to enable the river to be heard as an actor in its ecosystems and communities. The project aims to become a catalyst for regional environmental initiatives and promotes the recognition of the Lahn Lahn River as a political being in decision-making processes. The AI Avatar is set to be unveiled as part of a sculpture at Lahnfenster Hessen.
The discussion continued with von Redecker’s project on ‘soil translations’, which will culminate in a workshop. The project explores ‘planetary agency’ through small-scale agricultural practices and the knowledge of the more-than-human. von Redecker will conduct a participatory-art-based research with fields and farmers to model a more-than-human planetary democracy. To this aim, she will explore alternative agricultural practices that embody ecological sensitivity and non-exploitative, care-based relationships with the more-than-human.
The projects are to be realized in mid-June. Visit our website to stay updated on the events. Here, you can find the press release of JLU of our fellows. For more information on our fellows’ projects, click here.
We look forward to an exciting semester with our fellows!
