International Partners

The Giessen Center for Eastern Europe is built on an extensive network of institutionalized partnerships between the University of Giessen and partner institutions in Eastern Europe.

JLU Partnerships

Of great importance to GiZo are JLU’s thriving partnerships with the University of Łódź/Polen (since 1978),  Kazaner Föderalen Universität/Russland (since 1989, suspended since February 24, 2022) and the Nationalen Universität Kyiv-Mohyla-Akademie/Ukraine (since 2022). These are university partnerships in the truest sense of the word and thus well-versed in interdisciplinary collaboration.

Cooperation Agreements

In addition, there are cooperation agreements with the following universities: European Humanities University Vilnius (Litauen), Staatliche Polytechnische Universität Sankt Petersburg (Russische Föderation), Ablai-Khan Universität (Kasachstan), Belarussische Staatliche Universität (Belarus), Karls-Universität Prag (Tschechien), Universität Zagreb (Kroatien).

Additional Partnerships

Further collaborations are being established and expanded based on existing contacts—for example with Deutschen Historischen Institut in Warschau, the Center for Eastern European Studies at the University of Warsaw, Andrassy-Universität Budapest,  Centre for German and European Studies Sofia and the universities in Gödöllö/Ungarn, Iasi/Rumänien, Bukarest/Rumänien, Izmir/Türkei, Bursa/Türkei, Olsztyn/Polen and Tiflis/Georgien.
