‘Advanced materials’ are found in everything surrounding us: in clothing, smartphones, bicycles and buildings. Many of them are invisible, highly specialised and perfectly tailored to their specific application – ranging from natural materials such as wood or wool to high-tech materials with nanostructures or smart surfaces.
Whether in medicine, mobility, energy or space travel – new, optimised materials drive innovation. How can batteries be made lighter and more durable? How can the efficiency of solar cells be increased or the energy consumption of buildings reduced? Materials science provides the answers and shapes the future – sustainably, innovatively, fascinatingly.
