Your Request

The use of digital media in university teaching offers many advantages for lecturers and students - but often also raises new questions for lecturers: What possibilities do I have to support my teaching with digital media? Which legal aspects do I have to consider? Which tools and which methods are best suited for my teaching situation, my target group and my learning/teaching goals? How much time and effort does the use of a particular tool require - and what are the benefits for me and my students?
These are just a few of the questions you (have to) deal with if you want to use digital media in your teaching.
With the E-Learning Lunch Bag Session, we would like to offer you regular opportunities from the winter semester 2018/19 onwards to clarify these and other questions in exchange with colleagues, to share your own experiences and to develop new ideas together with other participants.

Our Service

The E-Learning Lunch Bag Session was set up to give you the opportunity to exchange all your questions and experiences about the use of digital media in university teaching in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff of the "Lehre 4.0" project will be on hand to advise and assist you.

The offer is intended to support you in...
...constructively use of digital media in university teaching.
...realistically assessing the advantages and disadvantages as well as the costs and benefits of using special e-learning tools.
... reflecting and conceiving e-learning/blended learning scenarios together in exchange with (interdisciplinary) colleagues - and applying ideas from different subject areas to your own teaching practice if necessary.

Learning sequences or entire courses can be implemented as Web Based Training (WBT). A WBT consists of individual units, which are assembled from images, texts, film sequences, screen recordings, audio contributions, test items or further Internet sources. Although WBTs require a high degree of self-motivation from students, the advantages outweigh their didactically sensible use and good conception by far. WBT's are suitable for imparting basic knowledge or consolidating the contents of the event. With the learning module tool in ILIAS we will show you how to create and edit a Web Based Training yourself and give you tips on how to integrate WBT's into your courses.

Audio-based podcasts can be used in practice to redesign traditional lecture forms and create an alternative to traditional face-to-face courses. In addition to the possibility of using finished or self-produced podcasts in your courses, you can also have your students create their own podcasts and thus achieve a high level of motivation in project and group work in addition to the technical discussion of the podcast content. Together, we would like to reflect on the possible uses of podcasts in teaching and point out various ILIAS tools for embedding podcasts.

A screencast is a digital recording of the contents of the computer screen. Subtitles and/or so-called voice over, i.e. the sound recording of a voice, are placed over image sequences and lead through the cast in an explanatory manner. Screencasts are often used to explain software, but can also be used in teaching to transfer knowledge or as a tool for student or collegial video feedback. In this context, we will discuss how you can integrate screencasts didactically into your teaching activities and how university lecturers and students can benefit from them. In addition, we provide practical tips and software recommendations that will enable you to try your hand at producing your own screencasts.

Adobe Connect - implement web conferences, online seminars and virtual office hours in higher education teaching. Live or real time-streaming of your teaching scenario and seminars offers various pros and cons - and we do not just talk about the technical know-how to start running your webcam or the microphone on your laptop. We'll talk about possibilities at the JLU to use different systems, implement them in your teaching plans and try a ILIAS web meeting in action.

Open Educational Resources (OER) are (digital) and free licensed teaching materials. Open Access (OA) is a mechanism by which research outputs are distributed online, free of cost or other barriers in scientific publications. Both terms belong to the open movement such as Open Source and Open Education. We shed light on the terms and the basic ideas behind the movement, discuss the licensing of our own digital materials, the use and implementation of educational materials and the advantages by using them in our own digital higher education teaching. We discuss how the quality of OER can be checked accuracy and present the information platforms OERinfo and Open Access.

Digitally supported collaborative work at JLU is now even easier: The new ILIAS and Stud.IP plug-in Etherpad enables students and teachers to work on a common text at the same time. All changes are immediately visible to all writers. It is possible to track all changes and further developments of the text and an integrated chat allows the students to work together in real time. The Etherpad is therefore ideally suited for collaborative text writing or editing. We introduce the plug-in, discuss didactically meaningful teaching/learning scenarios and guide you through the practical application on ILIAS and Stud.IP.

Tablet, Laptop (or Smartphone) is required.
