Instructions for completing the IP request form
There are a number of requirements to observe when completing the IP request form. These are described in more detail here.
An end device (PC, notebook or laptop, server, laboratory equipment, etc.) may only be operated on the data network of the University of Giessen after an IP address and host name have been assigned. The IP address and host name are assigned by the HRZ on the basis of the IP request form.
Note: IP requests may only be submitted by JLU staff members!
New request / Change request / Deletion (Antragsart)
- Neuantrag (New request): for devices that have not previously been operated
- Änderungsantrag (Change request): if, for example, the Ethernet address or the installation location of an end device changes with regard to institute/faculty or street/building
- Löschen (Deletion): if a device is no longer to be operated permanently

Information on the location of the end device
Where the device is operated. Please select the relevant information in the fields. The lists are generated dynamically based on the information previously selected.
- Campusbereich (Campus area): Please select from the list in the form.
- Teilcampus (Sub-campus): If applicable, please select from the list in the form.
- Straße und Gebäud (Street and building): Please select from the list in the form.
- Institut (Institute): Please select from the list in the form.
- Endgerät ist (End device is): Please select from the list in the form.
- Ethernetadresse (Ethernet address):
We use DHCP (“Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol”) so that devices automatically obtain their IP address. Therefore, the Ethernet address / MAC address must be provided.
You can find instructions on how to determine this address on your computer for various operating systems here. - Aliasname (optional) (Alias name (optional)):
This is generally not necessary, e.g. for PCs. An alias name will only be entered into the name service in justified cases, e.g. for server functions. - Endgerät soll E-Mails senden können (End device should be able to send emails):
If the device itself is to send system emails, this box must be ticked. This is usually not the case. You can find further information here. - Angeschlossen in Raum-Nr. (Connected in room no.):
The official designation or number of the room in which the end device is installed. This information is important in the event of technical problems. You can look up the correct designation in JLUmaps. - Soll an folgende Datendose angeschlossen werden (Should be connected to the following data socket):
This information helps us check the correct port configuration. Simply enter the socket label in this field. Preferably use sockets with an odd-numbered socket designation to connect your end device, e.g. 110/1 instead of 110/2. These are normally also activated. The socket label is attached to the socket. In older buildings, the label may be missing. In this case, please contact us beforehand. - Bemerkungen (Comments) (optional)
