Adapting cereal crops to changing atmospheric conditions

Short description

Global change leads to altered atmospheric concentrations of trace gases, including the air pollutant ozone, and carbon dioxide. In this project we aim to understand mechanisms and identify genes that help wheat and rice plants to adapt to changing atmpospheric trace gas composition, thereby contributing to the development of novel resilient crop varieties. We also investigate the interaction of trace gases with other environmantal factors such as drought or elevated temperatures. We collaborate with partners in areas that are currently most strongly affected by ozone pollution such as Bangladesh and China.
