The degree course can be studied in two different ways:
- 120 cp with four semesters standard period of study and eight semesters at the longest.
- 60 cp with two semesters standard period of study and four semesters at the longest.

Admission requirements
|
- Bachelor's degree from a university or an academic degree recognised in the Special Regulations as equivalent, with a mark of "good" or better, according to § 29 General Regulations for modularised and tiered courses of Justus Liebig University Giessen
Recognised qualifications for admission to the 120 credit points (cp) master’s degree course:
- Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts in Economics or Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Faculty of Economics of Justus Liebig University Giessen with a minimum of 180 cp
- Bachelor's degree that falls within the scope of the Higher Education Framework Act in relevant courses and totalling at least 180 cp
Recognised qualifications for admission to the 60 cp master’s degree course:
- Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts in Economics or Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Studies from the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of Justus Liebig University Giessen with a minimum of 240 cp
- Bachelor's degree that falls within the scope of the Higher Education Framework Act in relevant courses and totalling at least 240 cp
The previous degree course must have an academic profile which is a foundation for admission to the studies in the selected course. The student must provide proof that he/she has the necessary business, economics and methodology knowledge. Proof in this context includes the successful completion of the economics study blocks required for admission to the master's degree course, as offered in the bachelor's degree course at Justus Liebig University Giessen, or similar achievements. For admission to the Master’s of Science in Economics, methodological knowledge in the fields of mathematics and/or statistics must be demonstrated.
The Examination Committee may recognise additional courses of study as equivalent on examination of individual cases. In such cases, the final decision is based on an assessment of the certificates and profile of the bachelor's degree course. The Examination Committee may also consider any additional existing work experience in this assessment. See Examinations Office

Application and admission

The intake capacity of this degree programme is not limited. Applications
for the Winter Semester must reach the Studierendensekretariat
(students office) of JLU Giessen by 15.7. and for the Summer Semester by

Content
|
In the 120 cp variant, the course includes:
- Modules of a core specialisation (major) amounting to 60 cp. Possible majors are:
- Financial Markets and Institutions (FMI-VWL)
- General Economics
- Economics and Geography
- Modules of a minor amounting to 30 cp. The minor can include modules from business administration, economics or, amounting to up to 18 cp, non-economics master’s modules at JLU or economics modules from international universities.
- Thesis module amounting to 30 CP
On request, up to 30 cp can be included from economics bachelor’s modules if these, or similar modules, have not already been successfully accounted for in the bachelor's degree course.
In the 60 cp variant, the course consists of:
- core specialisation modules amounting to 30 CP
- an elective area with other economics or business administration modules amounting to 18 cp and
- the thesis module, amounting to 12 CP.
