Short Bio


Michael Hübler joined the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen in October 2019. Before, he was Junior Professor at the Institute for Environmental Economics and World Trade at the Leibniz Universität Hannover. Previously, he worked at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Mannheim, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW).

His research interests include technological progress, international technology diffusion via trade, foreign direct investments or migration and technology diffusion within countries. Technologies of particular interest are mobile phones and smartphones. Another major research interest is climate and energy policy. His geographic research foci are developing and emerging economics, particularly China and Southeast Asia, the European Union and (North) Germany. His research draws on theoretical, numerical and econometric methods.

His teaching portfolio comprises environmental economics, energy economics, climate change and economic development, international trade and competitiveness, economic modelling and econometric methods.
