Career options
The guiding principle behind this degree programme is preparing students for all areas of teaching foreign languages. This vocational link is guaranteed by the fact that the foreign-language teaching modules have been variously developed to be focused on practical application, as well as by the programme's elements of practical preparation in the profession.
JLU has long-standing links to relevant post-school language-teaching institutions, both public and private, so students are not left to their own devices in this area. The same is true for the mentoring of foreign-language teaching experience, where we have an established tradition of well-instructed and mentored preparation, observation and retrospective analysis. The period of professional work experience entails at least 4 seminars of preparation, 5 weeks of work experience and 4 seminars of retrospective analysis.
Any business or institution, both public or private, which carries out foreign-language teaching is a suitable location for work experience. The following institutions and businesses are normally recognised as suitable:
- public institutions for adult education
- private language schools
- companies which offer internally run language courses
- businesses and institutions which teach foreign languages
The fields of activity in question must be either teaching English, French or Spanish or practising a related profession. It is possible to gain work experience abroad. Work experience gained at a school is generally speaking not recognised. Formal recognition of the period of work experience is granted by the placements board or by its chair. This recognition certifies that the period of work experience was successfully carried out and contains its final grade. The chair bases his/her judgement on the documents provided. With periods of vocational training, the grades awarded by the host business or institution are used.
