Physical Geography

Our physical environment is in constant change due to natural and anthropogenic factors. The causes and impact of this environmental change are key questions of our society. Geomorphology and palaeoenvironmental sciences play a crucial role in answering these questions. Based on the theme ‘The past is the key to the future’, our research group investigates sedimentary archives in order to reconstruct palaeoenvironmental conditions and human-environmental-interactions. We use innovative methods such as sedimentology or the analyses of biomarkers, following a multi-disciplinary approach. Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating of sediments represents the methodological focus of our group.

Only those who know the past have a future.
(Wilhelm von Humboldt, 1767-1835)

Our structured and motivation-oriented curriculum is focused on Bachelor and Master studies, including the possibility for subsequent PhD studies.
