Mathematikum Gießen

Interactive Mathematics Museum, Prof. Dr. Albrecht Beutelspacher

The experiments presented by the Mathematikum are “hands-on mathematics.” This strictly activity-based approach offers a low-threshold way into mathematical thinking. The selection and design of the exhibits both stimulate understanding (“you need an idea”) and offer emotional reward – children (and adults) always experience a sense of achievement.

babySignal - Speaking with Your Hands

Course Instructor Daniela Daschke

A baby raises its hand to wave goodbye. Another child points to something, prompting us to look. Children love using gestures – it comes naturally to them, especially when spoken language is still difficult.

At babySignal, adults learn everyday signs to use with their baby. We teach real signs from German Sign Language (DGS). Using these signs gives you early insight into your child's world. Your child learns they can express what they see, hear, experience, or want – and be understood. People and things can be named, and needs and feelings communicated. babySignal supports early communication and mutual understanding.

Department of Developmental Psychology, JLU Gießen

Prof. Dr. Gudrun Schwarzer

How do children develop – and why? The Department of Developmental Psychology at Justus Liebig University Gießen investigates how thinking, feeling, and behavior change from infancy to adolescence. At our booth, we offer insights into current research and show how scientific studies with children are conducted. Some child-friendly studies can even be tried out on site – making psychology a hands-on experience!
