In this talk we will present the notion of CAT(0) geometry and some of its elementary properties. Moreover we will talk about consequences it has for groups when acting nicely on a CAT(0) space.
Focus will be put on two prime classes of CAT(0) spaces: the symmetric spaces of non-compact type and euclidean buildings. If time permits we will discuss some open problems and work in progess on how to study the two mentioned classes simultaneously.
