Mathematical Systems Biology of Infection Dynamics

Banner

Established in June 2024, the MSBID research group focuses on the human respiratory system, from the nose and mouth to the throat. We apply mathematical and computational systems biology approaches to investigate how the composition of the nasal and oral microbiomes plays a crucial role in developing infections. Our research involves computer-based predictions, including the reconstruction of biological systems, emphasizing standardization in a high-quality manner. Using these models, we study the migration of microbial species from the upper to the lower respiratory tract, analyzing their interactions and potential roles in causing infections. To gain novel insights for new antibacterial treatments and drug discoveries, we integrate metabolic systems biology with advanced techniques such as machine learning, reconstruction modeling, and dynamic analysis
