Research Interests

  •    Biomass production potentials and constraints in a time of climate change
from annual agricultural crops  - including C3 species (wheat, sunflower, hemp and beans) and C4 species maize and Sorghum.
from perennial C3 crops  - including grasses e.g. lolium perenne, reed canary grass and short rotation coppice trees e.g. Poplar and Willow
from perennial C4 crops - with a special focus on the breeding and agronomy of the perennial rhizomatous grass Miscanthus.
  •    Dissection and modelling of Genotype X Environment and Management (agronomy) impacts on yield potential.
  •    Sustainability analysis for biomass production considering nitrogen, soil carbon, erosion and other ecosystem services.
  •    Understanding the opportunities and constraints of biomass for food, feed and industrial purposes from agricultural regions.
  •    Creating farm based bioeconomy opportunities with public and private stakeholders within the planetary boundaries.
