12.09.2023 - Online Workshop: Protecting Migratory Birds in Wetlands

We are excited to announce the online workshop "Protecting the Migratory Birds in Wetlands," organized in the context of the project "BIRDS" by the Center for International Development and Environmental Research (ZEU). This event is co-hosted by Prof. Helmut Breitmeier (Justus Liebig University Gießen - ZEU and GGS section) and Prof. Meysam Shirkodaie (University of Mazandaran), in collaboration with the GGS section "Norms and Changes in Global Politics."

The workshop will feature three insightful presentations and discussions by esteemed speakers including Helmut Breitmeier (ZEU, JLU Gießen), Meysam Shirkhodaie (University of Mazandaran, Iran), Elif Kocagöz (Kahramanmaras Sütcü imam University, Türkiye), Mahmood Sharepour (University of Mazandaran, Iran), and Kristina Meise (Wadden Sea Secretariat). The presentations will delve into theories, concepts, and reasons for (illegal) hunting and consumption of migratory birds in the Fereydoonkenar international wetlands (Iran), along with discussions on supportive (policy) measures, norms, and solutions for effective governance to protect migratory birds. Additionally, the third presentation will provide a comparative perspective on the issue, focusing on the protection of migratory birds in the Wadden Sea.
