Abstract

This seminar focuses on the significance of integrating the land perspective (L) into approaches related to the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) nexus. While the WEF nexus has gained recognition as a means to achieve sustainable development goals through interconnectedness, numerous studies indicate that the interactions among its nexus elements are context-specific and heavily influenced by changes in land use. Dr. Renau will introduce a novel analytical framework that assesses the impact of land use changes on the composition and resilience of the WEF nexus. The framework will be applied to the region of Maria La Baja, a sub-watershed situated in the Colombian Caribbean. Dr. Renau's presentation will demonstrate that the WEF nexus manifests differently across various spatial scales, with Food (agriculture) consistently emerging as a crucial factor in enhancing resilience. The significance of other nexus elements such as Energy and Water varies considerably depending on the scale of analysis. Dr. Renau will also discuss effective land use policies for maximizing resilience.

Presenter: Dr. Jorge Marco Renau, Postdoc Research Associate, University of the Andes, Colombia
