21.12.2023 - SDGnexus Network's November - December 2023 Highlights

Giessen, 21 December - The SDGnexus Network was actively involved in diverse activities during November and December 2023. These encompassed science communication workshops in Ecuador, training sessions held in Bishkek and Giessen, and a presentation at the AGU conference in San Francisco. The network's engagements ranged from fostering research exchange and educational workshops to impactful conference participation.

Science communication workshops with local communities in Ecuador

In a bid to bridge scientific research with local communities, Dr. Jorge Forero and Dr. Aliya Assubayeva spearheaded science communication workshops in La Conception and San Lorenzo, Ecuador, in November 2023. These workshops aimed to disseminate crucial research findings on ecosystem services assessment in the Mira-Mataje transboundary catchment, spanning Colombia and Ecuador. This region, teeming with natural resources and deeply rooted cultural heritage from Indigenous and Afro-descendant groups, was the focal point. Following these workshops, insightful interviews with community leaders were conducted, shedding light on the pressing water security challenges faced within their territories.
