Professional Career
Nina Keller-Kemmerer studied law at Goethe University Frankfurt. After completing her studies with the first state examination in law, she began her doctorate and worked from 2010 to 2014 as a doctoral candidate and fellow of the “International Max Planck Research Group for Comparative Legal History” at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History (today: MPI for Legal History and Legal Theory). She was initially involved in the research project “International Law and its Science, 1789-1914”, which was funded by the Cluster of Excellence “Formation of Normative Orders” and led by Prof. Dr. Miloš Vec. She then worked as a research assistant in the research area “Translation”, headed by Prof. Dr. Lena Foljanty, on questions of cultural translation, translatability and the transfer of law.
In July 2017, she received her doctorate from the Faculty of Law at Goethe University Frankfurt. In her dissertation “The Mimicry of International Law. Andrés Bello's 'Principios de Derecho Internacional'”, which was awarded the Walter Kolb Memorial Prize of the City of Frankfurt in 2017, she questions the Eurocentric historiography of international law based on a postcolonial perspective.
She spent her legal clerkship at the Frankfurt Regional Court and completed her electoral station at the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen state parliamentary group in Wiesbaden. In May 2020, she passed her second state examination in law and subsequently worked as a consultant for state parliament affairs and cabinet in the ministerial office of the Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration. On February 8, 2024, she was elected by the Hessian State Parliament as a deputy non-judicial member of the State Court of the State of Hesse at the “proposal” of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen.
Since October 2021, she has been the joint coordinator of the BMBF-funded joint project “ASJust. Antisemitism as a Judicial Challenge” at the Chair of Public Law and International Law of Prof. Dr. Thilo Marauhn and is researching the topic of ‘Antisemitism as a Legal Concept’. In her habilitation thesis “Language in Court: On the Judicial Determination of the Meaning of General Language Statements”, she deals with the constitutional standards for the interpretation of statements from an interdisciplinary and, in particular, legal linguistic perspective.
