Bio 

 

Lana Loumbourdi teaches TEFL at the English department of JLU. She is currently conducting a study on teacher mindsets and inclusive practices for students with Special Educational Needs.

She studied English at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. In 2000, she earned her M.A on TEFL/ TESL in Birmingham University, UK, focusing on Assessment and Evaluation. She worked as a Research Assistant and Lecturer at Goethe University (2009-2014) where she completed her PhD, supervised by Prof. Dr. Britta Viebrock. In her dissertation she examined the washback effect of standardised exams on learning and teaching. Her PhD was published by Peter Lang.

She is a qualified teacher and has worked as an English teacher for 10 years in elementary schools, high-schools as well as vocational schools.

As of 2014, she has a permanent position as a Senior Lecturer at the English Department of JLU, where she has been offering seminars on Inclusion, Teacher Professionalisation, Assessment, as well as Teaching English in Primary School. She has also been supervising the Praktikum for English in Primary School.

 

Research

 

Her academic interests focus on Inclusion, Teacher Professionalisation, Primary school English, Assessment as well as Task-based Language Teaching. She has offered multiple seminars as well as workshops on these topics and has presented her research findings in several international conferences. She is currently working on a research project focusing on Inclusion of Students with Special Educational Needs.

  • Member of EALTA
  • PEAK1 Project (2012-2016), funded by the HKM. She developed, administered and evaluated a Speaking test, measuring the performances of 4th grade students in Hessen.
