In 2015 the American composer Alvin Curran (* 1938) published “The Alvin Curran Fakebook”, a kind of autobiography that consists of his own, mostly conventionally written notations, short texts, graphic scores, installation sketches and photos. Divided into melodies, duos, chorales, rhythms, songs, etc., the sheet music offers the possibility of being used, adapted and freely employed in different contexts, like in the tradition of the “Jazz Fakebook”, a huge collection of very loosely notated jazz standards that can be used for gigs of any kind. Alvin Curran writes: “My fakebook [...] is available to adventurous musicians, educated or uneducated, sound artists, scientists, composition and improvisation teachers, amateurs, avant-gardists in their final stages, bloggers, street musicians, book lovers or anyone who cares about my work and is interested in the development of art music in our time; it should be enjoyed and used”. The director Paul Norman, students of the Hessian Theatre Academy, the former Ensemble Modern trumpeter Valentín Garvie and the Ensemble Modern have created the stage version “FAKE (REAL) BOOK”.Ensemble Modern
