Short Biography
Ruth Schmidt initiates artistic processes together with others and writes texts in various forms.
Since 2023, she has been an artistic associate at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies.
With the collective ScriptedReality, which she co-founded with friends in 2014, she has realized numerous works that develop new formats at the intersection of performance, intervention, and play, creating situations that allow for the unexpected. Their work has been presented at various venues and festivals, including Mousonturm Frankfurt, FFT Düsseldorf, Ringlokschuppen Ruhr, HAU Berlin, Veem House Amsterdam, Gessnerallee Zürich, Mladi Levi Festival Ljubljana, Bâtard Festival Brussels, works at work Copenhagen, and more (www.scriptedreality.net).
In 2022/23, she was involved in the conception of IMPLANTIEREN – Festival of Shared Practices.
From 2018 to 2023, she worked as a research associate in the Master’s program Scenic Research at the Theater Institute of Ruhr University Bochum. Her PhD project The Cave, the Clouds, the Sea: Imaginary Infrastructure (AT) investigates three central theatrical scenes of European knowledge production and possible performative counter-practices.
Ruth’s interests include labor, production, and care relations; materialist epistemologies and the history of science; clouds; digital spaces; strange ecologies; and the transformation of our cities. She develops and experiments with forms that bridge teaching, performance, and play, researches queer-feminist writing and knowledge practices, and explores collective modes of world-making.
She studied Philosophy and Literature in Leipzig and Applied Theater Studies in Giessen.
