Workshops
Workshop 1 (in English)
Pascal Mangold (Mangold International GmbH): Multimodal Data Collection and Analysis in Observational Research
The aim of this seminar is to deepen your understanding of analysis concepts and techniques that will help you collect and interpret multimodal data. It will explore innovative technology, technical aspects, and methods, and discuss their applications.
Furthermore, the course will examine the diverse range of data types and sources, while also introducing attendees to the tools utilized in multimodal data collection and analysis. It will demonstrate methods for identifying relations in such data, which may only become visible after combining the data sets.
Half day workshop (9am - 1pm)

Workshop 2 (in English) - Please register until 18.08.2025!
André Pietsch and Christian Krippes (Justus Liebig University Gießen): Beginners' workshop Git and GitLab
The distributed version control system Git, in combination with GitLab, enables the effective management of codes and projects in teams and facilitates cooperations. In this workshop you will learn basics you need to get started on working with Git and GitLab, as well as to continue working independently.
Learning objectives:
- Basics of versioning
- What is Git?
- Git basics (commits, hashes, branches)
- Using Git correctly: Important commands (including practical exercises)
- What is GitLab?
- GitLab basics (login, users, project structure)
- Collaboration via GitLab (including practical exercises)
Target group:
- Everybody who wants to work with Git and GitLab can participate; the workshop does not require any prior knowledge.
Technical requirements:
- You will need a laptop on which you can install software, as well as the software Visual Studio Code (VSCode) and Git for your respective operating system.

Workshop 4 (auf Englisch) - Please register until 25.08.2025!
Dr. Susann Auer (Reproducibility 4 Everyone): Introduction to Conducting Reproducible Research in Developmental Psychology
(organized by Dr. Ina Faßbender, Universität Siegen and German Reproducibility Network, financed by the Specialist Group Developmental Psychology)

Rigor and reproducibility are the core of modern science and set apart scientific inquiry from pseudoscience. Many researchers have never received formal training on how to work in a way that enables reproducibility for themselves and other researchers.
What to expect?
This workshop will introduce reproducible workflows and a range of tools for researchers and everybody interested in working more reproducibly along the themes of organization, documentation, analysis and dissemination. After a brief introduction to the topic of
reproducibility, the workshop will provide specific tips useful in improving daily research workflows in the following topics:
- successful data management
- writing up reproducible methods and protocols
- electronic lab notebooks
- data and resource sharing
- meta data (not meta analysis)
- computational reproducibility
- data visualization
Intended audiences
Anyone interested in improving their reproducibility in research; all careers stages are welcome! Most of the material is introductory, so no prior knowledge is required. We will work through some use cases to directly apply reproducible practices you learned and discuss challenges in your work. All workshop materials will be available in digital form to potentially share with interested colleagues as well.
One week before the workshop, we will send out a survey to ask about your previous knowledge and expectations to make this workshop really useful for the participants.
