The Bachelor's degree program in Mathematics represents the classical mathematics study. It qualifies students with general problem-solving competence and is characterized by flexible specialization options.

A degree program in mathematics is suitable for people who like to get to the bottom of things, recognize structures, solve problems creatively, and ponder questions with perseverance. This makes it significantly different from school mathematics. In addition to imparting subject knowledge, the focus is on training analytical thinking.

In Giessen, mathematics students benefit from particularly good academic support and establish personal contact with their lecturers early on. They can choose from a broad range of courses and thereby specialize in the areas of analysis, algebra, geometry, topology, stochastics, and numerical analysis. Structure

The mathematics degree program in Giessen consists of the courses "Analysis" and "Linear Algebra" in the first year, which form the foundation for further studies. Building on this, one course each in "Analysis", "Algebra", "Stochastics", and "Numerical Analysis" is taken, allowing for orientation within the field of mathematics. Subsequently, the program offers a high degree of flexibility and usually consists of a specialization in one area, complemented by a degree of in-depth study in other areas. The basic structure of mathematics studies is similar at most German universities.

There, you can experience both the mathematics and the course formats as they will be during your studies.
 
For anyone wishing to refresh their foundational mathematics from school, we offer the preparatory course General Mathematics.
This serves to consolidate basic knowledge, but is not a preparation for the analytical thinking required in university study.
