Would you like to learn how chemical processes shape our lives and our environment? At Justus Liebig University Giessen, you will receive a thorough education in all core areas of chemistry – from inorganic, analytical, organic and physical chemistry, through to theoretical chemistry, and including biochemistry and bioanalytics.

On the Bachelor’s degree programme in Chemistry, you will acquire a broad range of specialist knowledge over six semesters and apply it directly in laboratory practicals and research projects. In your Bachelor’s thesis, you will independently tackle a scientific research question – with a practical and research-oriented approach.

The Master’s programme in Chemistry deepens your knowledge and is closely aligned with JLU’s key research areas:

  • Materials and nanochemistry,
  • surface chemistry and catalysis,
  • inorganic biochemistry,
  • environmental analysis,
  • computational chemistry,
  • applied electrochemistry and
  • specialised synthetic chemistry.

With a Master of Science degree, you will be ideally equipped for research and development in industry and academia, or for a PhD. Whether in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, the electrical sector, environmental technology or materials processing – studying chemistry at JLU opens the door to a wide range of career paths.
