Food Chemistry
How do foods change during processing, storage or as a result of environmental factors? What ingredients do they contain – and how can contaminants or allergens be detected? In the Food Chemistry degree programme at Justus Liebig University Giessen, you will study the chemistry and analysis of food, cosmetics, consumer goods and animal feed.
During the Bachelor’s programme, you will learn the fundamentals of chemistry, analytical methods and the natural sciences.
The Master’s programme will deepen your knowledge in areas such as food toxicology, food technology, quality management, food safety and food law.
Practical laboratory work, interdisciplinary modules and cutting-edge topics such as molecular sensor technology and genetically modified foods provide you with the ideal preparation for careers in government testing laboratories, research institutions or the food and cosmetics industry.
JLU Giessen is the only state university in Hesse that offers a degree programme in food chemistry. This ensures the training of food chemists, which is essential for consumer protection in Hesse.
