Chair of Soil Resources

The soil is the living upper layer of weathered material of the Earth. It serves as the location for plants and for plant production, as the habitat for soil organisms, as an archive for landscape and cultural history, and fulfills important regulatory and filtering functions in all ecosystems.

Central themes of the teaching and research of the Chair for Soil Resources and Soil Protection are

  • the role of soils as regulators of the cycles of carbon and nutrients at the interface between hydrosphere, biosphere, atmosphere, and geosphere, as well as
  • the behavior and effects of pollutants in soils and (agricultural) ecosystems.

By leveraging the synergy effects of our department and the iFZ, we are committed to the sustainable use and protection of our soil resources - worldwide.
