Peripherialising Giessen is an interactive walkshop through the city center that combines reflection, artistic practice, and embodied participation. Moving across four stations, from the university’s historic building to public urban spaces, the event invites participants to engage with questions of visibility, memory, movement, and community.
Through formats such as a counter-archive, sound, gathering, and embodied mapping, the walkshop explores how cultural knowledge is produced and experienced in public space. The final station brings these reflections into practice through an open Capoeira round, understood as an embodied form of knowledge, resistance, and gathering.
The walkshop highlights the relevance of cultural studies beyond academia by connecting theory and practice, and by fostering dialogue between different urban contexts and lived experiences.
Participants are kindly asked to bring a charged smartphone and, if possible, headphones/earphones, as some stations will include QR codes, videos, and autio materials.
Open to students, researchers, and the wider public.
