The programming language Python has become a favorite playground for non-programmers. Its elegant yet powerful structure makes space for projects ranging from data journalism to the humanities. This free elective is for everyone who doesn't think of themself as a programmer. With the absolute beginner in mind, the main objective is to address programming essentials and develop a ’Pythonic’ way of thinking: How can I automate the boring stuff? How can I clean my data? How can Python be used to unlock powerful methods from the digital humanities (Topic Modeling, Named Entity Recognition, Network Analysis etc.). The workshop will provide an overview of the programming language through the lens of qualitative research, incorporating hands-on experiences and case studies from research. For Participants who want to dive deeper, a consecutive self-learning course is offered.
