Bachelor of Liberal Arts & Sciences
This degree programme focuses on future topics such as sustainability, digitalisation and social change, which are taught and shaped as part of a broad course of study tailored to your interests.
The Bachelor's degree “Liberal Arts & Sciences” combines the central foundations for academic work with interdisciplinary topics on current challenges facing human societies in the form of so-called subject tracks. Students can earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science, depending on their specialisation.
The degree programme is divided into the orientation year, in which you will learn the basics of science and research, and the subject track, in which you will choose a scientific focus for your studies.
Admission requirements
The Bachelor's degree programme is open to students who have the general higher education entrance qualification, the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or a further training qualification with a higher education entrance or who are otherwise equivalent professionally qualified. Students are advised in particular by the JLU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
There are no specific language requirements.
Start and duration of the programme
The degree programme starts each winter semester, for the first time in the winter semester 2023/2024.
This programme comprises 6 semesters (Bachelor's degree) and has a scope of 180 CP. An individual study plan in terms of part-time study can be agreed upon with the JLU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.

No tuition fees are charged for the degree programme, only the JLU semester fees are charged.
Final degree
Upon successful completion of all modules of the Liberal Arts & Sciences degree programme, the academic degree "Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)" or "Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)" is awarded, depending on the specialisation chosen from the 3rd semester onwards.
The chosen area of specialisation is noted in the degree (e.g. Bachelor of Liberal Arts & Sciences with a specialisation in "Sustainable Development and Digital Transformation").
Micro Degree
After successful completion of the first two semesters (orientation year), a JLU certificate for a Micro Degree Liberal Arts & Sciences will be issued upon request.
Possible career paths
Graduates are particularly qualified to work in nationally and internationally active areas, such as political institutions, NGOs, commercial enterprises and cultural industries.
